A brief history

LERF was built, in part using the European Regional Development Fund, over a period of about three years, with the inauguration taking place in December 2015. Its design and functionality were outlined by INCEMC researchers who have been considering the creation of a center of excellence in renewable energies, with an emphasis on solar energy. In the western part of Romania, the use of renewable energies is investigated in large universities, so the direct conversion of solar energy into electricity seemed to be the best approach when designing LERF. According to the researchers, LERF is a core element in the development of a cross-border excellence pole, integrating organizations from the western area of Romania and the neighboring countries which share similar aims.
